Elvis Presley Birthplace Trail Construction Mobilizes

Local development officials broke ground last month on an enhancement and revitalization project connecting Downtown Tupelo to East Tupelo and the Elvis Presley Birthplace. Additionally, the project will improve traffic flow and efficiency as well as pedestrian comfort and safety.

Construction crews will begin preparing site October 3rd for Phase One, which will consist of widening the three bridges on East Main Street between Elvis Presley Boulevard and Highway 45. Traffic will be shifted to the South side of Main Street for the duration of Phase One. Please expect traffic delays during high traffic times- 8:00am & 5:00pm and consider taking alternate routes.

Work on Reese Street will begin early Spring of 2015 with work on Veterans Boulevard beginning late Spring of 2015. Work in the Downtown area will begin the Summer of 2015. Various factors will determine the construction schedule, including weather.

Modifications and enhancements of the project include repaving and widening East Main Street to five lanes, synchronized traffic signal controls, street trees and green space, sidewalks with bricked pedestrian crosswalks, crossing signals and decorative street lighting, among others.
