FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 10, 2014
Tupelo Mayor Jason Shelton announced today, February 10, 2014 that the State of the City address scheduled for February 11, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. will be postponed due to the threat of inclement winter weather.
Mayor Jason Shelton said, “While I look forward to delivering my first State of the City address, we simply cannot afford to tie up valuable resources that may be needed to address the more urgent needs of the citizens of Tupelo.”
Officials are monitoring an approaching winter weather situation that may cause snow and ice accumulation in the area. In the event of such a storm, Tupelo Police and Fire Departments, Tupelo Water and Light and Tupelo Public Works will all be on active duty to address any safety needs that might arise.
“We are planning to reschedule the event for February 24 at 4:00 p.m. but will make a definitive announcement once the City Council members approve the date. I look forward to reporting to you all of the great accomplishments we have achieved in the City of Tupelo over the past year. But more importantly, I want to make sure that the city services that keep Tupelo operating have all of their resource available to respond to any situation that might arise,” said Shelton. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
