Alley Refresh

In partnership with the City of Tupelo, the Public Works Department, Tupelo Water and Light and the assistance of the Convention and Visitors Bureau Quality of Life Grants, the alleys of downtown are being transformed.  In-kind design for the alleys was provided by DTMSA staff, and Landscape Architect, Shipman Sloan. Funds and labor for the surface were provided by the City of Tupelo Public Works Department. A grant from the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau Quality of Life provided funding for the lights with installation provided by Tupelo Parks and Rec. The total cost of the project was $43,608.00. DTMSA also collaborated with a newly formed group of young professionals, Tupelo Rocks. This partnership enabled purchases including ping pong tables, corn hole games, and a giant jenga. Funds from a Quality of Life grant provided these amenities for use in the alleys and at other events held downtown. The icing on the cake was the final partnership with senior art students from Tupelo High to create artwork for the alleys.

These efforts have transformed long neglected alleys into wonderful third gathering spaces in downtown Tupelo supporting the DTMSA mission β€œTo sustain and enhance the downtown experience.”
